NORMANN'S RUH - A PLACE OF HISTORY

Normann’s Ruh was built in memory of Willy de Normann, who married one of the Maclean daughters, loved Torloisk, and tragically died in 1860 while serving at the British Legation in China. Some of the beautiful pieces of china which he sent home from the Far East are still on display at Torloisk House today.

Normann’s Ruh - meaning Normann's Rest - was built in 1864 and was originally two small cottages. Intended to house the older people in the Fanmore area, the building was erected at the same time as the original road from Fanmore to Kilninian Church was constructed by the Torloisk estate.

A very happy stay over New Year - thanks Natalie. The location is perfect for a quiet retreat away from the busyness and the beauty of Mull is stunning - changing from moment to moment. The cottage is very comfy and has all we needed - felt like home. Will recommend this fantastic gem of a place and come to stay again for sure, been a wonderful beginning to 2025.

So glad our friend recommened this place. What a peaceful, cosy cottage. We had a great time, swam at Black Beach, walked with the art at Calgary, took a drive to Benmore and today picking up supplies of cheese and tasty biscuits to take home with us.

Wonderful time in this lovely house. Playng golf in sunny weather and lying on the beach at Fionnphort. We loved dining at Croft 3, walking distance, great food and owners so kind. Having travelled all over the world Scotland has become our favourite!

A really lovely stay, enjoying the varying landscapes, fauna and flora. There is so much to explore and enjoy here on the Isle of Mull, and here around Normann's Ruh. I could easily stay a month and not take it all in!

We have had a wonderful time here and fallen in love with Mull. The views and sunsets spectacular. Highlights include the boat trip to Lunga for the puffins and Staffa for the astonishing geology. Tajing the ferry to Ulva for a delicious lunch at the Boathouse Cafe and walking the headland at Treshnish to see the magnificient coastal views, ruined villages and sightings of white tailed eagles and red deer. We'll be back.

We had a great time and the cottage was excellent. Well presented clean and warm, everything we needed. I would certainly use it again and recommend it. We also had good weather and saw lots of eagles, fallow deer, otters, red deer, geese and much more.

A wonderful place to stay. It’s a great location for Calgary, Tobermory, sea trips and Ulva. Quite a drive to see Iona but it’s worth it as the drive across is spectacular.
